Tiffany Parakeets and Gold Fish Bowl

Louis Comfort Tiffany’s colored glass window, Parakeets and Gold Fish Bowl, was recently donated to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, by MFA board president Barbara L. Alfond and her husband Theodore, in honor of MFA director, Malcolm Rogers. This window was created by Tiffany to showcase his firm’s design and manufacturing skills at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. A team of trained artisans was responsible for the glass selection and manipulation that went into its composition. It is one of the first Tiffany windows to contain rough and polished pieces of opalescent and “Favrile” glass. Parakeets and Gold Fish Bowl was unveiled in the Robert P. and Carol T. Henderson Gallery for Art of the Aesthetic Movement at the November 2010 opening of the new Art of the Americas Wing.
