Grasset
Plants and Their Application to Ornament

Eugene Grasset's Plants and Their Application to Ornament, a copy of which resides in our collection, was initially published in 1897. Grasset (1841-1917) was a graphic designer and teacher of decorative arts in Paris in the late 19th century. He developed influential theories of graphic design, emphasizing a reliance on organic patterns when developing decorative motifs. The purpose of his book was to "represent natural forms in their exactitude, and then...exhibit the stages through which natural objects must pass before they can find their adaptation to ornamental use."

Our product development team used the illustrations in Plants and Their Application to Ornament to create some beautiful fashion acccessories and decorative items for your home and office.
